Securing Topsoil for Rehabilitation Using Fly Ash in Open-Cast Coal Mines: Effects of Fly Ash on Plant Growth

چکیده

Rehabilitation is an important stage in mining operations for environmental conservation. However, the shortage of topsoil makesit difficult to achieve rehabilitation open-cast coal mines. Securing by mixing soil with fly ash (FA), which treated asan industrial waste, expected solve this issue While FA makes it possible secure topsoiland treat waste simultaneously, high alkalinity and dissolution heavy metals from may inhibit plantgrowth. This study investigated effects on plant growth via vegetation tests simulated mixedwith using Acacia mangium, a species flowering tree: ratios were set 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 100%. Thegrowth mangium was inhibited increasing ratio, especially 60% 80%. rate ofAcacia ratio 100% nearly comparable that 40%. Furthermore, there wereno physical characteristics pH conditions at any ratios; meanwhile, the accumulated concentration Al body increased significantly 60%–80%. suggeststhat accumulation Al, inhibits growth, including root its functions, thegrowth mangium. Therefore, most aspect terms concerning use securingtopsoil not but amount body.

The respiratory toxicity of coal fly ash

The aim of this study was to compare the relative respiratory toxicity of CFA samples obtained from three Chinese coal-burning power stations to CFA obtained from a UK coal-burning power station; both bulk and respirable PM10 samples were tested. In order to elucidate CFA toxicity, a multi-disciplinary approach was taken, thereby considering geochemical aspects of the fly ash as well as biochem...

Health aspects of coal fly ash

Employees of coal-fired power stations and people living nearby as well as those involved in the shipment and processing of coal fly ash can be exposed to coal fly ash (pulverised fuel ash or “PFA”). An extensive research program was carried out in order to map such exposure and its effects. Particle size distribution, chemical composition, quartz, radioactivity, emission factors and fugitive d...

Production geopolymer materials by coal fly ash

Coal ash is the main waste from power plant. It is estimated that the consumption of the coal for power plant will increase to 240 million tons each year and the coal ash wastes will produce more than 2 million tons per year. Although the utilization of coal fly ash can be reached 74.1%, large amount of coal fly ash and bottom ash still cannot be utilized. The purpose of this research is to dev...

Use of fly-ash slurry in backfill grouting in coal mines

Cave backfill grouting implies grouting of the caving rock mass prior to it being compacted. The filling materials strengthen the caving rock and support the overlying strata to achieve the purpose of slowing down the surface subsidence. The broken roof will fail and collapse during mining operations performed without appropriate supporting measures being taken. It is difficult to perform conti...

Toxicity mitigation and solidification of municipal solid waste incinerator fly ash using alkaline activated coal ash.

Municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration is a common and effective practice to reduce the volume of solid waste in urban areas. However, the byproduct of this process is a fly ash (IFA), which contains large quantities of toxic contaminants. The purpose of this research study was to analyze the chemical, physical and mechanical behaviors resulting from the gradual introduction of IFA to an alka...
